Slow Stitching on Velvet Ribbon: Beautiful Handmade Detail for Art & Gifts

Next level ribbon.

Slow stitching on velvet ribbon using simple embroidery stitches creates next level embellishments.

My friend JoAnn recently introduced me to Sue Spargo, Eleganza Pearle Cotton threads. I’m in love! I have been wanting to stitch on velvet and the vibrant threads were exactly what I needed.

I often purchase the beautiful velvet ribbons from HomeSense. I assume they are meant for wrapping gifts but I have started using them in my stitch and art journals.

I use the embellished ribbon on this piece to repeat the bold teal colour across the layout. My stitch journal is made from Eco-dyed fabrics.

The ribbon could be used to add a personal touch to handmade gifts, journal wraps, or seasonal decor.

I particularly love the effect of the Sue Spargo, Eleganza Perle cotton, variegated threads.

I am using 8 Weight .

In Alberta you can purchase the thread from Quilting from the Heart in Camrose, AB.

In the USA you can purchase from Sue Spargos.

The subtle variegation creates magic.

Your choice of stitches is endless. I am particularly fond of the Bow Stitch.

I stitch three parallel lines and the cinch in the threads with a stitch in the middle.

I may have to just display this little collection as is, it’s so pretty!
